August 28, 2023

All showers are not created equally; there’s the body shower, which is perfect for the days when your hair doesn’t need washing, there’s the hair shower, for the days when your hair needs a cleanse, and then there’s the everything shower. Coined the “everything shower” by TikTok creators, this shower is the one that resets your beauty routine because it prioritizes shampooing, masking, exfoliating, conditioning, toning and scrubbing. It’s the time to do a hair mask and tone your color, exfoliate every inch of your body, shave, and smooth on lotion and body oil. Anything is game for the everything shower because it’s the ultimate act of self-care.

If you’re looking for new ways to indulge your senses, the everything shower should be on your radar. Ahead, we’re sharing all the L’Oréal Paris products you can use to complete your everything shower, for the ultimate skin, hair and body reset.

What Is an Everything Shower?

The everything shower is the shower that includes every step in your beauty routine. It often begins with a pre-shower face mask followed by a cleanse with your go-to shampoo (or a few), an application of your favorite nourishing hair mask, an all over exfoliation and shaving session, finished with some hydrating body care and skin care.

It can be as many steps as you like, and it can also be done in whatever order you like to shower. The whole aim is to provide head to toe body care with all of the products you don’t use in your daily shower routine, like hair masks or body scrubs. This may or may not also include your favorite wine, a scented candle and music playing in the background to keep the good vibes going.

How to Take an Everything Shower

The everything shower could also be considered the more-is-more shower because nothing is off limits. Here’s everything you’ll need to participate in social media’s latest self-care trend.

{ "@context": "https://schema.org/", "@type": "WebPage", "speakable": { "@type": "SpeakableSpecification", "cssSelector": ["speakable-content"] }, "url": "https://www.lorealparisusa.com/beauty-magazine/beauty-tips/beauty-trends/everything-shower" } document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function (event) { const element = document.getElementsByClassName('oap_hairdiagStart_divbtn'); if (element.length > 0) { let urlParams = new URLSearchParams(window.location.search); if (urlParams != "" || urlParams != null) { var keyValuepairs = urlParams.toString().split('&'); var qrUtmfound = 0; keyValuepairs.forEach(function (item, index) { if (item === "utm_source=pos" || item === "utm_medium=qrcode") { qrUtmfound++; } }); if (qrUtmfound == 2) { let relocHref = document.getElementById("hair_color_start_btn").getAttribute("href"); let relocUpdatedurl = relocHref + window.location.search; document.getElementById("hair_color_start_btn").setAttribute("href", relocUpdatedurl); } } } });

Pre-Shower Face Mask

To make the most of your in-shower experience, apply a face mask before you hop in so it can treat the skin on your face while you address your hair and the skin on your body. The bonus: You can easily wash it off in the shower.

Slather on a clay face mask, like the L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Detox & Brighten Face Mask, to help unclog pores and detoxify the skin. This mask contains charcoal clay that acts like a magnet pulling out dirt and oils from clogged pores to deeply cleanse. It also helps to rebalance dull, tired skin and boost radiance.

Shampoo for Hair

For the most part, the everything shower always includes a hair wash. There are many different options when it comes to shampoo so choose one (or a couple) that speaks to your hair’s specific needs.

If you’re using a hair bonding system, like L’Oréal Paris Everpure Bonding System, make note to apply the L’Oréal Paris Everpure Bond Strengthening Pre-Shampoo Treatment to damp hair, first. Leave it on for ten minutes before rinsing and washing your hair with the L’Oréal Paris Everpure Sulfate Free Bond Repair Shampoo with Citric Acid. This system targets weak hair bonds from the inside out to rebuild strength and reduce breakage.

A few more shampooing options to add to your everything shower routine is a purple shampoo, like the L’Oréal Paris Everpure Sulfate-Free Brass Toning Purple Shampoo, or a clarifying shampoo, like the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Curls Micellar Shampoo. The former uses purple dye to neutralize unwanted orange and yellow tones in hair while keeping it soft and moisturized. The latter helps to remove product build up and oils from the scalp without stripping moisture.

Typically, both of these shampoos are not formulas you’re going to use everytime you wash your hair. Use them as needed depending on the timing of your hair routine, but know that they make a great addition to an everything shower.

Hair Conditioner

After you’ve washed your hair, then you can rinse the shampoo and reach for conditioner. Conditioner is an essential hair wash step because it adds moisture back to the hair and helps to seal the cuticle, which makes for a smoother, frizz-free style. After you’ve rinsed your shampoo out, apply the conditioner to the length of your hair (two inches past the scalp to the ends), leave it on for three minutes and rinse.

If you washed with the first two steps of the Everpure Bonding System, finish with the L’Oréal Paris Everpure Sulfate Free Bond Repair Conditioner with Citric Acid for the best results.

If you toned your strands with purple shampoo, pair it with the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate-Free Toning Purple Conditioner for the best results. If you cleansed with the aforementioned clarifying shampoo, condition with the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Curls Moisture Seal Conditioner.

Hair Mask

If your hair is extra dry or you’re fighting hair damage, add a hair mask to your everything shower right after you condition your hair. The directions will vary from mask to mask but we recommend leaving it on while you wash, exfoliate and shave your body.

The sweet-like-candy scented L’Oréal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Savior Fiber Mask, Paraben-Free contains fiber concentrates and collagen peptides to repair hair damage in just one use. Add it to your everything shower to keep the length of your hair strong, soft and smelling good. When you apply this mask, focus on the length of your hair to avoid weighed-down roots. When you’re finished with your body care routine, rinse it out before you hop out of the shower.

Exfoliator for Body and Face

While your hair mask works it’s magic, now is the perfect time to cleanse your body and exfoliate. Cleanse the body with your favorite shower gel, and when it’s time to exfoliate, opt for your favorite method whether it’s a scrub, a loofa or a brush. Remember to pay extra attention to the typical dry areas like the elbows, knees and heels.

If you applied a face mask before you entered the shower, now is a good time to rinse it off. Follow up with a gentle face cleanser like the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser to remove any extra residue or leftover dirt and oils on the face. If you didn’t apply a mask, use an exfoliating cleanser, like the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Daily Scrub Cleanser; it contains glycolic acid and gentle, micro-pearls to buff away dullness and improve skin texture.

After you’ve cleansed your body and exfoliated, it’s the perfect time to shave. Use your favorite shaving gel or shaving oil to get a close shave, and cut down on irritation and in-grown hairs. When you’re finished shaving, rinse your body and also use this time to rinse out your hair mask.

Body Moisturizer

Once you’ve completed all of your in-shower tasks, then you can step out and lightly towel off. Remember, it’s best to apply moisturizer on damp skin so don’t dry off completely. Apply your favorite body moisturizer of choice; if your skin is dry, it may be beneficial to follow it up with body oil.

If your skin could use some sun-kissed color, apply a layer of the L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion Medium Natural Tan in place of lotion.

Face Serum and Moisturizer

After you’ve addressed the skin on your body, then it’s time for the skin on your face. If you took the time to do a face mask or exfoliate during your everything shower, keep your routine gentle and prioritize hydration.

Start with a hyaluronic acid serum, like the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum, to replenish moisture and plump the skin. Pair it with the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid + 1% Caffeine Eye Serum, a hydrating eye treatment with a rollerball applicator that serves as the ultimate skin treat. Did we mention it also helps to nix dark circles and puffiness?

Finish with a lightweight face cream like the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives Micro Hyaluronic Acid + Ceramides Line-Plumping Water Cream. The soothing formula contains hyaluronic acid and ceramides to repair the skin barrier while it deeply hydrates. Smooth it on your face, neck and decolletage for hydration that doesn't feel sticky or greasy.
