5 Unique Ways To Use Makeup Brushes And Blenders

August 21, 2017

Avid makeup wearers and beauty enthusiasts may be pretty familiar with different ways to use makeup brushes and blenders to apply makeup. However, there is no set rule that states that your beauty tools can only be used to apply makeup in a certain way. And since you spend money on them, you have every right to use them however you please! So, to make the most out of your makeup tools, we’ve gathered five unique ways you can use them—ranging from creating fun nail designs with brushes to using makeup blenders for stain removal. Read on to check out more clever ways to put your makeup tools to work.

Hack #1: Craft A Makeup Fan Brush

Makeup brushes can get seriously expensive, especially when you’re trying to take your makeup to the next level and upgrade to professional brushes. So we’ve included this hack to help us all save some cash. The next time you need a fan brush to apply some highlighter, try crafting your own using a blush brush and a few bobby pins. Slip the pins around the bristles to pinch and slim them into a thin, fanned-out shape. Then swipe it into some highlighter, like the L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glow Nude Highlighter Palette, and sweep the product across your cheeks and on the tip of your nose. When you’re ready to apply blush just remove the pins, and your brush will be as good as new.

Editor’s Tip: When working with a makeup product that’s lacking in pigment, try dipping your makeup brush into a bit of water. Using a wet brush can help powder products like highlighter and eyeshadow appear more pigmented—perfect for creating eye-catching looks.

Hack #2: Paint Nail Art Designs

In the mood to try out some intricate nail designs but don’t have the right nail tools? No worries! Repurpose one of your gel eyeliner makeup brushes (or any brush with a fine tip) and use that as your nail tool instead. You can create simple stripes or polka dots to jazz up your nails. When you’re finished painting, use another small makeup brush dipped in nail polish remover to clean up around your cuticles. And boom, you’re all done!

Hack #3: Take Off False Lashes

After a long night, it can be tempting to pull off your false lashes without using any lash remover. However, that is one of the worst things you can do, as it can cause your natural lashes to get pulled out as well. It’s better to dissolve the glue using a lash or makeup remover like the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof - All Skin Types. Grab an eyeshadow brush, dip it into the micellar water and work the bristles against the strip of your lashes. The remover should quickly break down the glue and help your falsies come right off.

Editor’s Tip: If you’ve run out of makeup brush cleanser, allow your micellar water to work double duty. Pour a small amount of the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types, into a bowl. Dip your brushes or blender into the liquid, swirl, and squeeze them out before wiping off on a towel. Repeat until completely clean.

Hack #4: Remove Deodorant Stains

Imagine this: you’re running late and pull on your favorite black dress after applying deodorant. Now you’re left dealing with bright white streaks on your black dress. And if you try scrubbing quickly with water, things may get worse. Luckily, we’ve got a good fix for this messy situation. Use a damp makeup blender, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender, to buff the stains out of your clothes instead. You can also apply a tiny amount of soap onto the makeup blender to help remove the stain even more.

Editor’s Tip: Makeup blenders and brushes are also great for applying skin care products. To make your skin care routine a touch more hygienic (a.k.a. no dirty hands), use a blender to bounce your serums and creams onto your skin.

Hack #5: Give Makeup A Second Wind

By the end of the day, your makeup may look a bit worn, which is completely normal. Instead of piling on more makeup to refresh it, try using a makeup blender soaked in a facial mist. Spritz a generous amount of the L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Shake & Glow Dew Mist onto a blender and pat it over your entire face. Its hydrating and soothing formula includes good-for-you skin care ingredients like coconut water and vitamin C, which will work to quench and brighten your skin. It’ll give your makeup a whole new life!
