7 Eyebrow Makeup Trends You'll Want to Try This Spring

February 22, 2019

Think back to last spring, and you’ll likely remember seeing all sorts of crazy eyebrow makeup trends, from the much-talked-about “squiggle brow” to the equally discussed “feather brow.” As spring 2019 approaches, we can officially report that unnatural brow shapes are out. Take a look at the social media feeds of your favorite models and makeup artists, and you won’t be met with brows that have been turned into works of art. Rather, you’ll find that this year, as the weather warms, what’s trendy is making the most of the brows you were born with. Of course, that doesn’t mean forgoing eyebrow makeup. Instead, it’s all about using the right eye makeup products to embolden your brows without going overboard. Ready to try something new? Here are seven eyebrow makeup trends to test out this spring.

EYEBROW TREND #1: GROWN OUT BROWS

When bigger brows first came back into style, we were oh-so-pleased. Gone are the days of super-skinny brows that have been tweezed to death. In fact, much to our (and hopefully your) joy, we only seem to be moving further and further away from that look. For spring, it’s on trend to completely pass on tweezing, threading, or waxing your brows and embrace your natural shape instead of plucking it into submission. To add a bit of definition and color to your natural brows, simply fill in sparse areas with a brow gel, such as the L'Oréal Paris Unbelievabrow Longwear Waterproof Brow Gel.

EYEBROW TREND #2: BRUSHED UP BROWS

We know a hack for fuller-looking brows, and all it requires is a spoolie. Here’s what you do: Use the spoolie to brush your eyebrow hairs upwards. Once they’re sticking straight up, guide the spoolie along the tops of your brows, pushing the hairs back into place. Ta-da, instant, on-trend fullness! To make sure your brushed up look lasts, use a clear brow mascara, like the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Boost & Set Brow Mascara in Clear, to set your brows.

EYEBROW TREND #3: ARCHED BROWS

Angles are in. Just like chiseled cheekbones and a sculpted jawline, everyone’s after more angular eyebrows. Since we aren't all born with a prominent arch, we’re happy to report you can use makeup to fake one. After filling your eyebrows in with the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Mechanical Pencil, use the concealer end of the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Brow Raiser Highlighter Duo to clean up their shape. Lastly, to help lift your arches, use the illuminating end of the highlighter duo beneath your brows. Blend out with the pad of your finger and you’re good to go—or glow.

EYEBROW TREND #4: BLEACHED BROWS

Bleached brows have been trending for a while now, but we understand not everyone wants to take that plunge. And that’s where makeup comes into play. You can lighten the look of your brows with a brow pomade in a blonde shade—we’re fans of the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Frame and Set—which will help to hide the shade of your real brows.

EYEBROW TREND #5: STRAIGHT BROWS

Sometimes two things that are complete opposites become popular at the same time, and that’s the case with arched brows and straight brows. A super-high arch won’t suit everyone’s face, so thankfully, straight brows are in style, too. Use the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Shape & Fill Mechanical Pencil and focus on filling in the underside of your brows, making it look as if they are straight across on the bottom.

EYEBROW TREND #6: UNTAMED BROWS

If you aren’t partial to appearing as if you spent an hour pruning and penciling your eyebrows into shape, we’ve found just the trend for you. You can rock a natural, untamed look. A little messy, this style is ideal if you’re a fan of smudged eyeliner or the blurred lip look. Of course, just like no makeup, makeup, untamed brows still require a beauty product or two to get the look—they aren’t quite as natural as the name might imply. Quickly fill in your brows with the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Plumper, then use a highlighting pencil underneath your arches to complete the look.

EYEBROW TREND #7: contoured brows

If you ask us, contouring of any type isn’t just a trend—it’s here to stay. That’s because it really works, and when done properly, it doesn’t look unnatural at all. Here’s how to contour your eyebrows: First, outline and fill them in with one of the aforementioned eyebrow pencils. Next, use the lightest shade in the L'Oréal Paris Infallible Total Cover Concealing and Contour Kit to highlight underneath your brow bone. Finally, using the L'Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Prep & Shade Pro Kit, shade the front third of your eyebrows with a color that’s just slightly darker than your brow hairs. This will create the contoured effect you’re after. For a more detailed rundown of how to contour your brows, read our article, How to Contour Your Eyebrows.
