An Eyebrow Makeup Routine for Beginners

November 09, 2018

By now, you’re probably well aware that a killer set of brows is one of the biggest beauty trends at the moment. Not everyone is born with Insta-worthy brows, but getting brows that look thick and full can be achieved by using the right eyebrow makeup. Of course, if you haven’t used eyebrow makeup before, then you might be intimidated—after all, you want your brows to look as natural as possible. And with one wrong move, you could end up with brows that look anything but. The good news is, applying eyebrow makeup doesn’t have to be quite as difficult as you might've imagined. Follow our eyebrow makeup tutorials for beginners below—just top off your look with some eyeliner and mascara and you’re good to go!

AN EYEBROW MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR PATCHY BROWS

If your brows just don’t grow quite right, use this eyebrow makeup tutorial to fill in sparse areas.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Unbelieva-Brow Longwear Waterproof Brow Gel

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Fill in your patches

Use the doe foot applicator to lightly apply the gel and fill in any patchy spots.

Step #2: Create your shape

Outline your brows and define your arch using the included angled brush. Stick with making feather-like strokes to avoid overdone brows.

Step #3: Blend the product

Comb through your brows with the spoolie to blend the product and create natural-looking, seamless brows.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Shape & Fill Mechanical Pencil

L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Boost & Set Brow Mascara

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Fill in your brows

Use the spoolie end of your eyebrow pencil to brush all of your brows hair up and in the direction they naturally grow. This will make it easier to see what you’re really working with.

Step #2: Add volume with brow mascara

Simply swipe on some brow mascara. Start at the beginning of your brows, making sure to brush up and over in the direction they naturally grow as you work your way out towards the tails of your arches.

Step #3: Add definition

Use the thicker side of your eyebrow pencil to trace along the bottom edge of the first half of your brow. When working with your tails, use the narrower edge of your pencil. Then blend, blend, blend!

AN EYEBROW MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR THICK BROWS

Since your brows are already thick, it won’t take much to perfect them. Lucky you!

What you’ll need:

A spoolie

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Brush up your brows

For an amazing eyebrow look, all you need to do is tame your brows with a few strokes of a spoolie. Brush your brows upward for an on-trend look that’s sure to suit your thick brows.

AN EYEBROW MAKEUP ROUTINE FOR SHAPELESS BROWS

If you feel like your brows could use a more distinct shape, we’ve got the perfect eyebrow makeup tutorial for you below.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Frame & Set

L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Mechanical Pencil

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Brush your brows

Using the spoolie end of the brush that comes with your brow pomade, brush your brows up and over in accordance with the way they naturally grow. This will give you a better idea of what shape you’re working with so that you know what needs accentuation.

Step #2: Map your brows

Use your eyebrow pencil to help map out your brows. First, align the pencil with the dimple of your nose straight up towards your brow. Wherever it lands, that’s where your brow should begin, so draw a small brow hair to mark your place. Next, align the pencil with the dimple of your nose and have it go diagonally up and across your iris. Wherever it lands on your brow is where your arch should naturally be the highest, so draw another dash there. Lastly, align the pencil with the dimple of your nose and extend it over toward the tail end of your brow. Wherever it lands is where your ends should be, so draw a dash one last time.

Step #3: Trace your arches

Now that your brows are mapped, use the angled edge of the brush that comes with your brow pomade and connect the dots—or dashes, in this case. Make sure to draw straight lines between each dash to create a sculpted arch. Don’t worry about it looking too thick because you’ll blend your work out in the end.

Step #4: Fill in your brows

Dip the angled-edge of your brush into your brow pomade to add color to the area between your outline.

Step #5: Add natural-looking definition

To complete your shapely arches, use your eyebrow pencil to draw hair-like strokes throughout your brows. Once you’ve finished, use the spoolie end of your eyebrow pencil to blend everything out for a seamless, natural look.

Editor’s tip: Regardless of what brow type you have and which eyebrow makeup tutorial you’ve chosen to try, consider using the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Brow Raiser Highlighter Duo to top things off. Use the matte end to conceal around the edges for extra clean lines, followed by the highlighter end to reflect light for a model-off-duty look.

Speaking of that, if you’re looking for a low-key makeup look to pair with your new brow routine, check out our article, How to Get an Off-Duty Model Look.
