How to Use Makeup to Cover Veins

January 11, 2019

It’s true what they say: nobody’s perfect. And since we all have imperfections, it’s only natural that everyone has things they’d like to conceal. One such thing? Veins. And yes, you can use makeup to cover veins, you can even use makeup to cover varicose veins. With a little help from a few face makeup essentials, like concealer and setting powder, you can cover veins with hardly any effort at all. Ready to get to work? Follow our step-by-step tutorial on how to use makeup to cover veins.

4 STEPS FOR USING MAKEUP TO COVER VEINS

Like we said, covering veins with makeup isn’t hard! Stick with these four steps and your veins will be undercover in no time.

Step 1: Prime Your Skin

Anytime you apply face makeup, it’s a good idea to lay down a primer first—and concealing veins is no exception to this rule. It doesn’t take much extra time to apply primer, but it can make all the difference in how smoothly your makeup goes on, how long it lasts, and how natural it looks.

When it comes to covering veins in particular, we recommend using a matte primer that helps smooth imperfections. Try the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Lock Makeup Primer, which has a matte finish and breathable formula.

Step 2: Color Correct

Veins have a color to them (they’re usually purplish blue or green) and you’ll need to cancel that color out in order to cover them up. What we’re hinting at is, this is a job for color corrector. To neutralize the color of your veins, use a yellow or peach concealer—just like you would to conceal dark circles. Grab one of the L’Oréal Paris True Match Color Correcting Crayons and apply it over any veins you want to cover. Then, use a makeup blender to blend out. If your skin is looking a little sallow after this step, don’t worry, you’ll be applying another concealer over top.

Step 3: Use Waterproof Concealer

Color corrector is practically magic, but it’s best to follow it up with a concealer or foundation that matches your skin tone—that’s how you end up with a seamless finish. When it comes to covering veins, it’s a good idea to use a waterproof concealer that won’t budge throughout the day. Apply the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer Waterproof over any areas you used color corrector. The full coverage concealer will effectively hide any veins that are still visible and cover up any yellow or peach tones your color corrector left behind. Use your makeup blender to blend out and you’re almost finished!

Step 4: Set with Powder or Spray

Priming and using long-wearing makeup goes a long way in ensuring your veins stay hidden as long as you want them to be, but it never hurts to set your makeup. For this step, you have two options: face powder or setting spray—which one you should use really comes down to preference.

If you’re partial to powder, dust the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Sweep & Lock Loose Setting Face Powder over your concealed veins. The translucent powder will lock in your look for the long haul.

Would you rather use a spray? You can set your makeup with just a few spritzes of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray. Hold the bottle eight to ten inches away from your skin and spray four to six times—then let go of any fears involving your makeup not staying in place.

Bonus Step: Apply Eye Primer

Have visible veins on your eyelids? If you do, it’s totally normal, but your veins might peek through your eye makeup and impact your look. If you want to cover veins on your eyelids, use an eye primer that matches your skin tone. Not only will you cover your veins, but your eye makeup will last longer, too!
