Glycolic acid is a powerhouse exfoliator that works to minimize the appearance of dark spots, dullness and excess shine. There are a few different ways you can incorporate the ingredient into your skin care routine, including via cleansers, serums and one of our favorites: toners. That’s why our editors were eager to put the new L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 5% Glycolic Acid Peeling Toner to the test to see how it stood up to their different skin types . Read on to find out how the toner performed on dry skin, oily skin and combination skin.

Skin Type: Combination, Dull
Toner is an integral part of my daily skin care routine. It helps keep my skin looking mattified and works to combat excess oil that typically creeps up on my T-Zone, not to mention it combats dullness. So I was super stoked to try this glycolic acid formula. I’m all about having a radiant complexion without looking too slick. After I applied it for the first time, I noticed how lightweight and non-sticky it felt, and my skin looked instantly matte but still radiant. Throughout the following few days of testing, I also noticed that I began to wake up with a brighter, more even-toned complexion that shined through my makeup in a nice way (and not an oily way). As a true toner whisperer, I’d say this formula sets high standards!

Skin Type: Oily, Acne-Prone
I’m super picky when it comes to the products I put on my temperamental, acne-prone skin but because glycolic acid is the one product my skin always responds well to, I was excited to give it a go. I applied the toner to a cotton pad and wiped it across my face after cleansing one morning. Right away, I fell in love. Usually toners leave behind a sticky residue, but that wasn’t the case here. The toner goes on as a liquid and soaks into the skin almost immediately, only leaving glowing skin behind. Since then, I’ve incorporated the toner into my morning and nighttime skin care routines and have been so pleased with how well it controls my oiliness and has kept my skin smooth and blemish-free.

Skin Type: Dry, Maturing
You’d think because I have dry skin that glycolic acid is the last thing I turn to when it comes to skin care. But it’s actually the main ingredient in most of my products because my skin is acne-prone and my acne almost always scars. So this toner is like a miracle product for me. I apply it after I wash my face and before my L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I love that I can use both without worrying about irritation. My skin texture feels smoother and I’m making some serious progress lifting this hyperpigmentation!

Skin Type: Oily
When it comes to my skin care routine, finding products that exfoliate effectively without causing redness or irritation is key. Although I have oily skin, exfoliation is still essential in order to keep my skin texture smooth and my complexion radiant. I typically exfoliate at night because I use highly concentrated products, so when I got my hands on this new gentle peeling toner, I was excited to finally have something that I could incorporate into my morning routine. I love how it gives me an extra boost of exfoliation in the morning and it’s also excellent at removing excess oil from my skin and leaving me with a balanced, smooth complexion.
