Not at all! There is enough formula in the cartridge for up to 3 applications*. By allowing the device to warm-up, you are calibrating the mixture to its perfect ratio. Allow formula warm-up to flow for 20 seconds into the sink. Formula is ready for your scalp once the is green!

How do I clean the device after use?
You’ll need to clean the device after each use, it’s quick & easy. Cleaning ensures your device stays in working condition.

After ejecting the color cartridge, fill the blue cleaning cartridge with warm water, securely close, & insert it back into the device. You’ll then see on the led panel. Hold the device over the sink at a downward angle and click the power button to flush water through. Once cleaning cycle has finished, dry & store away for next use.

How do I turn off the device?
The device automatically turns off after 2 minutes!

Why did my device start & stop /stutter during warm-up or cleaning?
To ensure proper warm-up and cleaning, the device must be positioned correctly to allow the formula/water to flow appropriately. Please see the below instruction:

Warm-up:

  • • Tilt device over sink at upward angle.
  • • Hold power button until bristles move, then release to warm-up
  • • Formula will come out, allow it to flow for 20 seconds. This ensures formula is properly mixed.
  • • Do not apply until is green

Cleaning:

  • • Tilt device over sink at downward angle
  • • Hold power button until bristles move, then release to begin cleaning
  • • Water will flush through device for 2 minutes
  • • Device is clean when is green

How do I store the color cartridge for my next use?
If cartridge has not been fully used, place the color cartridge back into the cartridge box and store away in dry place for next application. Use cartridge within 4 months after first use.

Remember to clean your device after each use.

I have long hair, how many cartridges do I need?
If you follow the recommended saturation linked below, you should only need 1 color cartridge to color your full head. If you have extremely long & thick hair, it’s not a bad idea to purchase 2 color cartridges for your first application.

When do I need to use the lengths adapter?
If you are doing an all-over coloration – once you’ve finished your roots, snap the lengths adapter on to the bristles. This piece will help you apply color to your roots and help you avoid wasting formula. You can use your gloved hand to help guide your lengths application.

Do I do an All-Over Color or Root Touch-up?
All over color: Use if you have never colored your hair, you want to lighten or darken 2 or more levels, or you have not colored in 3 months or longer.

Root touch-up: use if you color every 4-6 weeks with this shade or similar shade, or if you're in between colorings to cover unwanted grays.

How should I prepare to use Colorsonic?
You should do 3 quick things to prepare to color with Colorsonic:

  1. 48 Hours before coloration: Perform the allergy test 48 hours before each use of any hair color product
  2. At Coloration: Prepare your coloring space by placing the instruction sheet on your sink counter.
  3. At Coloration: Detangle dry, unwashed hair completely to allow the device to pass through your hair more easily

How do I perform an allergy test?
  1. Clean the area the size of a quarter in the bend of your elbow with soap and water. Pat dry.
  2. Get device ready as if you were coloring your hair. Follow steps to warm-up the device.
  3. Once the check mark is green on the device, press the power button to dispense a small amount of product on a cotton ball.
  4. Apply formula to the test area with the cotton ball.
  5. Let test spot dry. Do not wash, cover, or disturb for 48 hours.
  6. Clean device as directed to avoid malfunction before your coloration.
  7. Examine test area periodically over the next 48 hours. If you experience any reactions – such as redness, burning, itching, swelling, skin abrasions, eruptions, or irritation in or around the test area, DO NOT COLOR YOUR HAIR UNTIL YOU CONSULT A DOCTOR

Will Colorsonic permanent hair color stain my sink and towels?
Any permanent hair color can stain your bathroom or light-colored towels. The beauty of Colorsonic is – it directly delivers a cleaner and easier application than traditional at-home color.

If you have chemically treated hair (permed, relaxed, keratin treatments etc.),

Do not use over compound henna or progressive color. Wait at least 14 days after bleaching, relaxing, or perming before coloring.

I have highlights or balayage, can I still use Colorsonic?
It depends on your highlights & the type of color application you want to do.

Root Touch-up: Yes, you can always touch-up your roots. The beauty of Colorsonic is you precisely apply color to your roots without the formula touching your highlights or balayage.
