Gluten Skincare Benefits:
Moisturizing
Gluten is a mixture of proteins found in wheat and other related grains such as barley and rye. It functions as an emulsifying component that binds together ingredients. In addition to providing products with a uniformly smooth and desirable texture, gluten may also possess hydrating properties that help to retain moisture in the skin. In cosmetics, gluten containing products most often include powder foundations, mascaras, lipsticks, and lip balms. 1 Individuals who are gluten intolerant may be safe to use gluten containing products. Studies suggest that gluten’s chemical structure is too large to be absorbed through the skin; therefore topical application may not be harmful. The only caution is when using lip treatments that contain gluten. 2 Consultation with a doctor is highly recommended.
