Micellar Water Benefits:
Moisturizing
Purifying
Micelles are spherical structures made up of amphipathic fatty acids. Amphipathic fatty acids contain both a hydrophilic (polar, water-attracting) and a hydrophobic (nonpolar, water-repelling) region. When displaced in water, the hydrophilic region of the micelle faces out towards the surrounding water molecules, while the hydrophobic region of the micelle remains shielded, hidden away from the surrounding water molecules.
In regards to skincare, the amphipathic nature of micelles is utilized for gentler, more hydrating facial cleansers. When applied to the skin surface, micelles surround and lift away dirt, oils, and impurities. This method of cleansing avoids the use of harsh chemicals and detergents that may dry out the skin. Cleansing micellar water products function as a good method to remove dirt and make up without stripping away too much of the skin’s natural oils. 1
