Danelle Umstead is the Founder and President of Sisters in Sports Foundation (SIS), an organization igniting a movement where every woman and girl with disabilities finds belonging, thrives, and builds an empowering community. Diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at 13, a disease that causes progressive vision loss and eventual blindness, Danelle faced the world without a sense of belonging and struggled to embrace her true self, until her twenties when she discovered skiing.
Finding a new vision for her life and defying all odds, Danelle is now a celebrated 4-time Paralympian and Paralympic medalist with 53 World Cup podiums. Danelle’s athletic accomplishments inspired her to create SIS, ensuring that no woman or girl ever feels unworthy because of a disability.
SIS’s transformative programs not only prepare athletes for sports but most importantly equip them for life. The foundation offers financial assistance, wellness programs, mental wellness support, mentorship, and roundtables focused on building self-worth and helping each woman become strong and resilient through learning and developing vital life skills.
