What Is An Eyeshadow Stick? 

Eyeshadow sticks are cream eyeshadows that come housed in a tube rather than a pan, palette, or pot. They typically boast a crayon-like applicator and can be thin (almost like an eyeshadow pencil) or thicker, like a crayon.

How To Use an Eyeshadow Stick

1. Prep your lids

Before applying eyeshadow, you’ll want to make sure your lids are clean and free of any residual makeup from the day (or night) before. It’s also a good idea to prep your lids with eyeshadow primer to help extend the wear of your makeup. Simply apply a thin layer onto your lids and let it dry before reaching for your shadow stick.

2. Apply your chosen color (or colors) 

Next, swipe your chosen eyeshadow color directly onto your lids, blending the pigment with your fingertip. The warmth from your finger will help the color “melt” for a seamless wash of color. 

If you prefer, you can also use an eyeshadow brush to blend out the shadow stick. Just swipe the shadow stick across your eyelids, then use a fluffy eyeshadow brush to buff out the color across your eyelids. Natural eyeshadow look

Shadow sticks lend themselves incredibly well to creating natural, everyday eye makeup looks, since they’re buildable and you can tailor the intensity to your liking. Simply grab a neutral-leaning matte shade—we love Alluring Rose and Brown Bliss—and swipe it across your lid for an understated yet flattering wash of subtle color. 

Soft smokey eye

To nail a smokey eye, you’ll want to snag at least two different eyeshadow crayons—one lighter, one darker. Start by swiping the lighter shade across your lid, blending the pigment just past the crease for a diffused effect. Then, define your outer corners with the deeper shade, taking care not to bring the color too close to the center of your eyelid. Then, use your finger or a blending brush to blend where the two hues meet for a seamless gradient. Y2K silver lids 

Y2K makeup is one of this year’s biggest trends—and there’s perhaps no better way to embrace the aesthetic than with a bold silver eyeshadow look. Fortunately, this nostalgic look is super easy to nail.
