How to Wear Bold Black Eye Makeup

July 15, 2018

We’re always looking for a new beauty look to try—and what’s not to love about bold black eye makeup? This beauty trend has been everywhere from your local hangout to the runway to the red carpet. Of course, a bold look like this one is so much more than eye makeup. Ready your blackest eyeliner and smokiest eye shadow, because we’re sharing how to wear a bold black eye makeup look.

STEP #1: PREP YOUR FACE

Before doing your eye makeup, you want to give yourself a flawless complexion. Here’s how to get one:

1. Apply makeup primer

Start by applying a makeup primer to ensure your look is long-lasting. The L’Oréal Paris Magic Lumi Primer Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer is a light infusing primer that blends seamlessly into your skin and will give you a luminous glow.

2. Move on to foundation

After applying primer, grab your foundation. For this look, you’ll want a foundation that has high coverage. The L’Oréal Paris Infallible Total Cover Foundation gives 24 hours of full coverage while having a lightweight feel on your skin. Apply it using the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender using dabbing and rolling motions to effortlessly blend it into your skin.

STEP #2: Define Your Face

Don’t let your look fall flat. Sculpted features will truly complement this look. Don’t worry, it won’t take the attention away from your eyes!

1. Highlight with concealer

First use a concealer to leave your eyes looking more awake. Apply the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Super-Blendable Multi-Use Concealer in a color that is 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone. Dot it on in an upside-down triangle shape under your eyes, on the bridge of your nose, and on the center of your chin to highlight your features. Blend it in using your same makeup blender for seamless application.

2. Get sun-kissed skin

Next, it’s time to apply a bronzer. The L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Bronze It Bronzer will give you a sun-kissed glow. Apply the bronzer to the corners of your forehead, jawline, and the hallows of your cheeks.

3. Complete your cheeks with blush

After you’ve applied your bronzer, add a subtle touch of color to your cheeks with a blush. Avoid bright colors as this will take away from the intensity of your eye makeup look. The L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Blush in Rosy Outlook will give your cheeks the perfect flush. Apply this to your cheekbones, steering clear of the apples of your cheeks.

STEP #3: FILL IN YOUR BROWS

Just as important as your eye makeup itself, you want to make sure your brows are full and defined. Fill your eyebrows in using the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Mechanical Pencil. Lightly fill in the natural shape of your brows with purposeful strokes. Comb through your brows to softly blend.

STEP #4: GET YOUR SMOKE ON

Your eye makeup is the center of this look. For a bold black eye look, you’ll want to stick with matte eye shadow shades. The L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Quads in Cookies & Cream has all the colors you’ll need for this look. Here’s how to apply it.

1. Smudge a grey shade across your lids

First, use the dark grey color allover your lids.

2. Place black eye shadow in the crease

Next, apply the black with a fluffy eye shadow brush to the crease of your eye. Use a blending eye shadow brush to ensure the two colors blend seamlessly.

3. Apply a brow bone highlight

Apply the white shade on your brow bone to highlight it.

4. Define your lower lash line

Take the black shadow with a small, flat top eye shadow brush and drag the shadow along the lower lash line, making sure to blend and smudge the line so it isn’t too harsh.

Once your eye shadow is complete, line your waterline using a black eyeliner to intensify the look. The L’Oréal Paris Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner in Black will last up to 24 hours, making it ideal for your night out.

Finish your eyes by applying mascara. Since this eye makeup look is more intense than your everyday eye look, you’ll want to amp up your lashes a little more than you usually do. The L’Oréal Paris Voluminous X Fiber Mascara in Blackest Black will give your lashes extreme volume and length.

STEP #5: COLOR YOUR POUT

To complete the look, a neutral, barely-there matte lip color will keep the attention on your eyes. The L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lipstick in Matte-Cademia is a nearly nude color that will leave your lips feeling soft and smooth.

STEP #6: SEAL IN YOUR MAKEUP

Now that all of your makeup is applied, ensure it lasts by applying a setting spray. Spray the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray 8-10 inches from your face 4-6 times in an “X” and “T” motion.
